Pau D'Arco

The primary active anticancer component of pau d'arco (Tabebuia spp.) is lapachol, a naphthoquinone compound found in the bark. Lapachol has been studied for its potential antitumor and cytotoxic effects, particularly against certain cancer cell lines, due to its ability to generate reactive oxygen species and inhibit cancer cell growth. Another related compound, beta-lapachone, derived from lapachol, is also noted for its anticancer properties, often showing more potent effects in preclinical studies.
