A popular mouthwash may raise cancer risk and "should not be used daily," experts warn.

Fusobacterium nucleatum and Streptococcus anginosus have been associated with cancers of the gastrointestinal tract, including colorectal and esophageal tumors.

Concerns have been raised by scientists about a popular mouthwash brand commonly found in households. Experts warn that regular use of Listerine, particularly the Cool Mint variety, may elevate the risk of these cancers and recommend against its daily use.

A recent study conducted by scientists from the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp found that daily gargling with Listerine Cool Mint significantly increased the levels of these two bacteria in the mouth, both are linked to esophageal and colorectal cancer.
