October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Around 80% of breast cancers are estrogen-receptor positive, meaning they rely on estrogen to grow. These cancers are often treated with hormone therapies like tamoxifen or aromatase inhibitors, which block estrogen receptors or reduce estrogen levels. Managing estrogen is essential for reducing the risk of recurrence.

Role of Progesterone: Progesterone can counterbalance estrogen’s effects, potentially protecting against estrogen-driven tumors. Maintaining hormonal balance, particularly between estrogen, progesterone, and thyroid function, is crucial for breast health.

Vitamin C and Progesterone: A study showed that vitamin C supplementation (750 mg/day) can significantly raise progesterone levels by 77%, which may support hormonal balance.

Breast Cancer Prevention: Risk factors include age, family history, and hormone therapy, while protective measures like early pregnancy, breastfeeding, and physical activity can help lower risks. Regular screening, a balanced diet, and ongoing research are critical in improving breast cancer outcomes.
